Mary Elizabeth Scott a long time Durango resident, passed away Friday, November 15, 2024, at age 91. Mrs. Scott was born June 2, 1933, to Harry and Harriet Donnelly in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.  She grew up on the East Coast.  After graduating from Woodrow Wilson High School in East Camden, New Jersey, she then graduated from the National School of Practical Nursing in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

Mary Married John E. Dever, Jr in 1952 in Camden, New Jersey.  They moved to Illinois, Oregon and Michigan while he pursued his education.  In 1967, she moved to Durango when her husband became a professor at Fort Lewis College in the Department of Biology. The marriage later ended in divorce after 19 years.

In 1973, Mary married G.W. Scott.  His Federal Government job transferred the family to Alamosa, Salida and Trinidad, Colorado.  After her husband's death in 1979, Mrs. Scott returned to Durango with her two children.

Mrs. Scott worked for the Federal Government as a test administrator for ASVAB (Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery) written tests and Civil Service written exams in Durango and surrounding areas.

Mary felt a deep commitment and love for her children and grandchildren and was always there for them.  She especially enjoyed making family memory books, scrapbooking and genealogy.

Mrs. Scott was preceded in death by her husband G.W. Scott and former husband John E. Dever, Jr. and three children, Beth Dever, and infant twin sons, Ronald and Scott Dever.

Mrs. Scott is survived by her son, John E. Dever, III of Durango, daughter, Suzanne Dever Kuschnereit, two granddaughters, Chantel, Brianna all of Farmington, New Mexico, one great grandson, Liam of Albuquerque, New Mexico and numerous relatives all of New Jersey and Pennsylvania.
