Loy Ross Mullins (1928 - 2018)

Loy Ross Mullins passed away on Saturday, March 24, 2018, in Bloomfield, New Mexico, after a brief illness at the age of 89. Loy was born on April 10, 1928 in Russellville, Arkansas to Loy Ezra Mullins and Mildred Evia Ross. We know little about his childhood. Their family moved to El Cajon California. He was 13 years old when the Japanese bombed Pearl Harbor which caused the United States to enter into World War II. At that time Loy was too young to enlist in the war but Chris remembers Loy telling him stories of how he used to Drive ammunition trucks to help in the War effort. When he was old enough, he enlisted in the army and became a 1st Sergeant. He married Florence Moore and had 2 children, Scott and Barbara. They were later divorced. He served on the California Highway Patrol and he also worked in the Shipyards as a welder in San Diego, California. On Aug 11, 1972, Loy's son Scott Mullins married Marivene Woods. Some time prior to this event, Loy would have met Bonnie Marilyn Woods, who was Marivene's mother. Apparently this meeting left a lasting impression on Loy, for when Bonnie later divorced, Loy proposed marriage and the two were married in Yuma, Arizona on Dec 16, 1978. Thus began a relationship of love that lasted almost 40 years. After their marriage, Loy and Bonnie moved to Hurricane, Utah where Loy's father, Loy Ezra was living. He later moved to Farmington, New Mexico where he eventually bough a small ranch on La Plata Highway where he could raise horses. Loy loved horses and enjoyed riding them taking care or them. During this time in Farmington, he served on the Police Department and later was a Deputy Sheriff for San Juan County. Loy loved serving in Law enforcement and excelled at it. He also was on the Sheriff's Posse, which he continued to serve on even after his retirement.

Loy is survived by his wife, Bonnie, and there 5 children from previous marriages, Scott, Barbara, Marivene, Michele (Brent), and Chris (Sandra). He had no brothers or sisters. Also their 13 grandchildren and 17½ Great Grandchildren.
