George Kufalk Bacon Obituary

Dr. George Kufalk Bacon passed away peacefully in his sleep on December 18, 2018, at the age of 86. He was born on April 16, 1932, in Stevens Point, Wisconsin. George was the son of George Bacon and Elinor (Kufalk) Bacon. George spent his childhood riding horses, honing his pistol and rifle skills and developing his love for the outdoors and care of animals. He attended the University of Minnesota earning both undergraduate and Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degrees, his studies culminating in the summer of 1958. The call of the Rocky Mountains was strong - ten days after passing his State of New Mexico Board Certification he put down deep and lasting roots in Farmington, New Mexico. He met the beautiful Carolyn Kennedy after she accidently backed over her dog in the driveway (he saved the dog, of course) and the two were married soon after in 1966. George was a true jack-of-all-trades - Expert veterinarian, world-class skier, talented musician, avid outdoorsman and capable carpenter and welder. His vast knowledge of firearms and reloading, as well as his crack pistol and rifle talents, made him a local legend. More than anything, he was a devoted and loving husband to Carolyn, exceptional father to their three children, Geoffrey, Carrie and Christopher, and a dedicated Papa to his grandchildren. George retired from his veterinary practice in 1996, to pursue his multiple interests in life, including riding motorcycles, camping and hunting with friends and lowering a very average golf handicap. As a strong supporter of all things Farmington, George was a member of the PTA, a leader in the Boy Scouts of America and Explorer Scouts, a longtime participant in and former President of the Farmington Rotary Club and, later in life, a stalwart in the Sacred Heart Catholic Church, singing in the choir and donating his time and resources to the faith including active membership in the parish council. His distinct absence will be borne throughout the entire Farmington community.

George is preceded in death by his father and mother, his older brother, Alfred Bacon and his beloved wife of 46 years, Carolyn Kennedy Bacon. George leaves behind his son, Geoffrey Bacon and wife, Kelly of Albuquerque, New Mexico; daughter, Carrie Thompson and husband, John of Farmington, New Mexico; and son Christopher Bacon and wife, Jennifer of Vienna, Virginia; five grandchildren, Andrew Bacon, Paige Thompson, Gina Bacon, Jack Thompson and Anna Bacon. Cremation will take place, and a Rosary will be recited at 9 a.m. on Wednesday, January 2 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 414 N. Allen Ave in Farmington NM. A Memorial Mass of Christian burial will follow the same day at 10 a.m. with Father Tim Farrell as celebrant.

The family would like to thank Namaste Assisted Living for all the love and care they gave George over the last five years - this became home to him and his pets, and the staff became our family. We would also like to acknowledge the support and care given by the family's friends and relatives during this difficult time.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the San Juan College Foundation at 4601 College Blvd; Farmington, NM 87402 or the Regional Animal Shelter Foundation at P.O. Box 1242; Farmington, NM 87499.

George's care is entrusted to Brewer, Lee and Larkin Funeral Home, 103 E. Ute Street in Farmington, NM. (505) 325-8688.
