Charles Read Rogers

Charles Read Rogers, 68, of Farmington, passed away Tuesday, June 4, 2024, and went home to be with his Lord and Savior.  Read, as most knew him, was born July 30, 1955, the son of Jake Felix Rogers and Lois E. (Brown) Rogers, in Farmington, New Mexico.

Read was a man of faith who followed Jesus Christ during his lifetime through his actions.  He loved his family. He loved the outdoors. He enjoyed camping, riding ATV’s and 4-wheeling, spending time in the mountains, and marksmanship. He enjoyed hunting in his younger days.  He was a decent amateur photographer and an exemplary handyman. Read also enjoyed some big adventures in his lifetime including scuba diving in the Cayman Islands. He was always up for a long game of Scrabble or dominoes.   Read loved spending time with his children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nephews and nieces, and many other family members and friends.

Read graduated from Farmington High School in 1973.  He worked in the construction industry throughout his life, most recently as a heavy equipment operator for Doug Foutz Construction Company.  He often talked about how much he enjoyed not only operating the “big toys” such as tractors and other construction equipment, but also getting to work with his longtime friends in the industry daily. Working was more than work for Read. It was really about the comradery and contributing to the community; building great things.  Read also founded and successfully ran Custom Striping Service, his small side company, expertly marking numerous parking lots and roads in the region for over 40 years.

Read was preceded in death by his wife, Barbara G. (Fuller) Rogers; his parents, Jake F. and Lois E. (Brown) Rogers, his sister, Elizabeth “Ann” (Rogers) Jones, and his beloved German Shepherd, Sadee.

He leaves behind his daughter, Shawna (Jason) Lippert; son, Jeffrey (Brandy) Rogers; nephew Douglas (Tonya) Duke; grandchildren, Daniel, Emerson, Colton, Damara, Emerie, Hannah, Evelyn, Gabrielle, Lydia, Logan, Clayton; great-grandchildren, Canon and Cash, as well as many other beloved family members and friends.

Graveside services for Read will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, June 12 at Memory Gardens Cemetery, 6917 E. Main St. in Farmington with Pastor Gary McMillan of Providence Presbyterian Church officiating.

Pallbearers are Jeff Rogers, Jason Lippert, Doug Duke, Jacob Duke, Dennis Boushele, and Rod Lippert.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorial donations may be made in Read’s memory to Wounded Warrior Project at www.woundedwarriorproject.org/donate.
