Carolyn Jean Penney passed away peacefully while surrounded by family on October 11th, 2023 at the age of 85. She was born in Monmouth Illinois on April 19th, 1938 to parents Lillian Beatrice Davis and Ralph Kenneth Davis. She was married to John M. Penney for 63 years, and had five children, Paula Ann, John Davis, Rose Carolyn, Janice Lynn, and James Charles.

Carolyn was a devoted mother and wife, who graduated with a degree in chemistry from Monmouth College, Illinois in 1960. She was also a Life Member of Mensa, and very active in her church where she crocheted prayer shawls for those in need. She enjoyed puzzles and movies with her husband, and regularly attended Mensa Annual Gatherings across the country. Also, while traveling John and Carolyn enjoyed spending time at various amusement parks, continuing to ride roller coasters well into their seventies. She could also be found spending quality time with her children and grandchildren playing various card and board games.

Carolyn was a kind, sweet, and loving person who would graciously put others needs before hers. She will be deeply missed by her family and friends. She is survived by her husband John, age 85, her daughter Rose, age 56, and son James, age 49. Her extended surviving family also includes 14 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren, and 5 great-great-grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held on November 4th, 2023 at 2:00 pm at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Farmington, NM. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to your church or charity of choice.

Carolyn is entrusted to Brewer, Lee & Larkin Funeral Home, 103 East Ute Street, Farmington, New Mexico.
